Morning departure for Monteriggioni

In the heart of the Province of Siena lies Monteriggioni, a medieval treasure built between 1214 and 1219 by the Sienese to defend against Florentine incursions. Its perfectly preserved circular walls, adorned with 14 soaring towers, have made this fortress a symbol of medieval military ingenuity. Dante Alighieri famously referenced these imposing towers in his Divine Comedy, likening them to giants encircling a pit. Stepping into Monteriggioni is like stepping back in time, with its cobbled streets and ancient structures offering an authentic glimpse into life during the Middle Ages.

Departure for Montepulciano

Montepulciano, a stunning Tuscan hill town, combines centuries of history with breathtaking views and renowned wines. Built along the ridge of Monte Poliziano, this village has roots as a fortified settlement dating back to 715, later flourishing during the Renaissance. Its cobbled main street stretches 11.5 kilometers, leading visitors past historic landmarks to the grand Piazza Grande, where the cathedral, completed in 1619, stands as a centerpiece of architectural elegance. The town also served as a strategic outpost during the struggles between Florence and Siena in the Middle Ages, with its fortifications playing a key role in regional conflicts.

Known worldwide for its exceptional wines, Montepulciano offers a chance to taste the celebrated Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Rosso di Montepulciano. As you explore, you’ll uncover a town that weaves together its rich past, scenic beauty, and winemaking traditions into an unforgettable experience.

Pienza

Perched between Montepulciano and Montalcino, the village of Pienza is a Renaissance masterpiece with a playful side. Originally known as Corsignano, this modest village was transformed in the 15th century by Pope Pius II, who sought to create an “ideal city” that embodied humanist ideals of balance and beauty. Designed by architect Bernardo Rossellino, Pienza became a model for Renaissance urban planning and remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its harmonious layout and architectural significance.

Beyond its historical grandeur, Pienza has a cheesy claim to fame. Renowned for its Pecorino, made from the milk of sheep grazing the local pastures, this town celebrates its culinary pride with an annual Pecorino tossing contest—a tradition as lively as it is delicious. As we wander through its charming streets and sample its famous cheese, we’ll experience a town that blends history, flavor, and fun in perfect harmony. Pass the Pecorino, per favore!

Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio, or “Old Bridge,” is one of Florence’s most iconic landmarks and a symbol of the city’s enduring charm. Spanning the Arno River, this historic bridge dates back to 1345 and is renowned as the only Florentine bridge to survive World War II, allegedly spared by direct order of Hitler. Once home to butchers and tanners, the bridge was transformed in the 16th century by Duke Ferdinand I, who replaced the workshops with luxurious gold and jewelry shops—a tradition that continues today.

Conveniently located just steps from our hotel, the Ponte Vecchio offers not only a shopper’s paradise but also a stunning view of the Arno, making it a must-visit for both history enthusiasts and treasure seekers alike!

Piazza Signoria

Piazza Signoria, Florence’s central square, has been the city’s political and cultural heart since the 14th century. The square witnessed pivotal moments in history, including the rise of the Medici family and the infamous Bonfire of the Vanities in 1497, when religious zealots destroyed art and luxury goods under the influence of the preacher Savonarola. The Palazzo Vecchio, originally built in 1299, stands as a testament to Florence’s power during the Renaissance and has been the seat of government since Medici rule. The Loggia dei Lanzi, an open-air gallery, features sculptures spanning centuries, including Benvenuto Cellini’s bronze masterpiece of Perseus holding Medusa’s severed head, a work commissioned by Duke Cosimo I in the 16th century to symbolize his triumph over tyranny.

Florence’s Accademia Museum

The Accademia Museum houses some of the most extraordinary works of Renaissance art, offering a window into Florence’s golden age. Its centerpiece, Michelangelo’s David, was carved from a single block of marble between 1501 and 1504 and originally intended to adorn the rooftop of the Florence Cathedral. The statue instead became a symbol of Florentine independence and was placed in Piazza Signoria before being moved indoors for preservation. Visitors will also encounter Michelangelo’s Prisoners, unfinished sculptures intended for Pope Julius II’s tomb, which illustrate the artist’s belief in "liberating the figure" from the stone. The museum provides a deeper understanding of the genius and innovation that flourished during the Renaissance.

Departure for Siena

Our journey will take us to Siena, a city steeped in history and legend, whose UNESCO-listed historic center preserves the essence of medieval Italy. First settled during the Etruscan era (c. 900–400 BC), Siena grew into a powerful medieval city-state renowned for its art, cuisine, and the famed Palio, a thrilling horse race held twice a year in the heart of the city’s Piazza del Campo.

According to local lore, Siena’s origins are tied to Senius and Aschius, the sons of Remus and nephews of Romulus, who founded Rome. Fleeing after their father’s murder, they brought with them the iconic symbol of the she-wolf nursing twins, a motif that remains central to the city’s identity.

Siena is also the birthplace of Saint Catherine, a revered mystic and poet whose writings and devotion made her one of the most influential figures of her time. Over lunch, we’ll delve into her life, including her poetic depiction of God as an “inebriated lover,” and toast to the enduring spirit of this remarkable city.

Siena is so rich in history and traditions that I decided to further my education by studying art history and archaeology. I love to talk about every aspect of this place that I call "my home": its nature, art, history, local traditions, cuisine and good wines. Shall we explore it all together?

Introducing Ischia:

Welcome to Ischia, the largest volcanic island in the Bay of Naples. As the ferry approaches, you’ll be greeted by the island’s lush, green hillsides, sparkling white beaches, and the vibrant hues of the Mediterranean Sea. Far less crowded than its glamorous neighbor Capri, Ischia offers an authentic Italian escape—a hidden treasure where you’ll feel like you’ve stumbled upon a well-kept secret.

The island’s charm lies in its diversity. You’ll wander through spa towns that have drawn visitors since Roman times, their thermal waters renowned for their healing properties. Stroll through serene gardens and dense forests that seem plucked from a fairy tale, and breathe in the salty sea air as you relax on pristine, sun-drenched beaches. The rolling vineyards that blanket the island add to its allure, providing not only picturesque views but also world-class wines to enjoy.

As the day unfolds, you’ll discover that dining in Ischia is an experience all its own. Local chefs transform the island’s bounty into unforgettable meals. While fresh seafood reigns supreme, perhaps you’ll opt to savor the island’s famed rabbit dishes—a nod to an ancient tradition of inland farming. And for a delightful post-dinner treat, you’ll sample rucolino, a unique liqueur crafted from peppery arugula leaves. Its licorice notes and vibrant green hue capture the bold and earthy spirit of Ischia itself.

This is more than a visit; it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the rhythms of Ischia’s life—a world of natural beauty, mouthwatering flavors, and rich history that promises to leave your group spellbound.

Late morning departure for the Negombo Hydrothermal Resort in S. Montano Bay

A unique opportunity to relax in the European tradition. This famous outdoor European spa not only features one of the very best beaches on Ischia, but 8 natural outdoor thermal pools of varying temperatures (from 86F to 106F), a seawater swimming pool (ambient temperature), a Turkish steam room (130F), massage therapy (prices not included) and more. Since the days of the Etruscans, thermal waters have been used by priests in religious rites. As the Romans spread through Italy, they popularized thermalism with the creation of numerous thermal centers throughout the peninsula. Thanks to its volcanic origins, the island of Ischia has one of the richest and most varied hydrothermal resources in the world, with over 100 thermal springs. Negombo was conceived to combine the extraordinary therapeutic properties of its thermal waters with a healthy, pleasurable experience. Hit the beach, swim in hot thermal mineral water pools and live in the moment.

Once Upon a Time...

Once upon a time, a group of strangers found themselves embarking on a journey through the enchanting landscapes of Tuscany and the breathtaking coastal towns of Ischia, the island of Procida, Positano, Ravello, and Naples. They had decided to stay in a luxurious private villa nestled amidst the rolling hills of Tuscany, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, where each corner held a story waiting to be discovered.

As they explored the picturesque villages, indulged in the sumptuous local cuisine, and bathed in the golden sunlight that painted the sky each evening, a bond began to form among the travelers. They shared stories of their past adventures, dreams for the future, and moments of vulnerability that brought them closer together.

In Ischia, they soaked in the rejuvenating thermal waters and danced under the starlit sky, letting the soothing whispers of the sea sweep away their worries. In Positano, they wandered through the cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses cascading down the cliffside, their laughter echoing through the narrow alleys.

In Ravello, they found solace in the tranquility of the gardens overlooking the azure sea, where the vibrant blooms mirrored the blossoming friendship between them. And in Naples, they savored the rich history and vibrant energy of the city, savoring each moment as if time itself had slowed down to allow them to treasure this journey forever.

By the end of their adventure, the group of strangers had transformed into a tight-knit circle of friends, bound by the memories they had created together and the magic of the places they had explored. As they bid farewell to each other, they knew that the bonds forged in the heart of Tuscany and along the winding coastal roads would last a lifetime, a testament to the power of travel to bring souls together and create everlasting connections.
